FAQ

Questions regarding bespoke charts, data, and fine art printing.

How do I submit my family tree data?

You can securely submit your data using a standard GEDCOM file exported from platforms like Ancestry or FamilySearch. Alternatively, we provide MS Excel and CSV templates if you prefer to manually compile your ancestral records.

What is a bespoke genealogy chart?

Unlike rigid templates, a bespoke chart is meticulously designed from scratch to accommodate the unique structure of your specific lineage, ensuring a balanced, gallery-quality composition.

What printing methods and materials do you use?

We utilize the Giclée printing process, applying highly durable archival inks onto premium art paper. This guarantees your family chart resists fading and preserves its crisp typography for generations.

Can I receive my chart as a digital file instead of a physical print?

Yes, we offer final digital deliveries in high-resolution JPG, PDF, and infinitely scalable SVG formats, allowing you to share the artwork digitally or have it printed at a local specialist.

What is a circular family tree?

A circular family tree, also known as a fan chart, is a beautiful and geometric way to display your ancestry. Unlike a standard tree that grows horizontally and becomes unreadable, a circular tree radiates outward from the centre, giving exponential generations the space they need while looking like a stunning piece of modern art.

How long does a bespoke commission take?

Each tree is a unique piece of art. Standard design turnaround is approximately 1-2 weeks once we receive your verified family data. Printing and shipping times will depend on your location.

Can I choose the colours and style?

Absolutely. We offer several established aesthetics, including Full Colour, Minimalist, and Watermarked styles (using motifs like the Celtic Knot, Thistle, or Rose). For fully bespoke commissions, we can tailor the colour palette to perfectly match your home decor.

Do you ship internationally?

We are currently sourcing our international suppliers to ensure the highest quality delivery for physical prints. In the meantime, we offer high-resolution digital delivery options if you prefer to arrange printing and framing locally.

What is your returns and refunds policy?

Because every product is custom-made to order based on your unique family data, we cannot accept returns for "change of mind" once a design is approved. However, if your item arrives damaged or contains a manufacturing defect, we will provide a free replacement or a full refund. For full details on cancellations and proofing stages, please view our full Returns & Refunds Policy.

Returns & Refunds Policy

Returns Policy Overview

Every product (digital files, unframed prints, or framed prints) available on this site is custom-made to order. To ensure the highest quality and fastest delivery, physical orders are fulfilled by regional print partners (LUMAPRINTS in the US, Artovo in the UK/EU). Because each piece is produced specifically for you upon ordering and data submission, our returns policy is tailored to bespoke manufacturing.

1. Damaged or Defective Items

If your physical order is damaged in transit or contains a manufacturing defect (such as a misprint or structural issue), you are entitled to a free replacement or a full refund.

  • Reporting Timeframe: Please report within 30 days of receiving your item.
  • How to Report: Email contact@markdmillican.co.uk with your order number and photographs of the damaged product and packaging.
  • Resolution: Free replacement expedited at no cost or a full refund to your original payment method.

2. Change of Mind / Buyer's Remorse

Because each design is custom-manufactured exclusively using your unique family data, we do not hold inventory. Therefore, we cannot accept returns or offer refunds for "change of mind" once an order is finalised and approved.

3. Order Cancellations & The Proofing Process

  • Data Pending (Full Refund): Cancel before submitting your GEDCOM or CSV data for a 100% full refund.
  • Proofing Stage (Partial Refund): If you cancel during the proofing stage before final print approval, a £45 processing fee is retained to cover design work, and the rest is refunded.
  • Final Approval (No Refund): Once final proof approval is submitted, printing begins immediately and orders cannot be cancelled or refunded.

4. Lost or Missing Packages

If tracking shows no updates or indicates your package has been delivered but is missing, allow 48 hours and check with neighbours or your local delivery office before contacting us for a replacement claim.
