Seeing the First Framed Prints in Person

It is one thing to see a design on a screen, but seeing the final printed and framed ancestral trees in person is an entirely different experience.

After weeks of perfecting the digital builder and the underlying geometries of the circular ancestral charts, I finally received the first physical proofs of our framed products. I am thrilled to share the results with you.

The 16" Black Frame (Scottish Thistle)

The first piece I unboxed was the 16x16 inch black frame, featuring the Full Ancestry layout with the Scottish Thistle motif. The striking black frame provides a sharp, museum-quality boundary that draws the eye directly into the centre of the chart.

The purples and greens of the thistle motif pop beautifully against the stark black border. It feels incredibly premium and grounded. What struck me most was the crispness of the typography. When fitting 6 generations (up to 64 great-great-great-grandparents) onto a single print, legibility is the primary concern. The high-resolution Giclée printing handles the micro-typography beautifully, keeping even the smallest dates perfectly sharp.

The 16" White Frame (Tudor Rose)

The second piece was the exact same dimensions (16x16 inches) but set in a clean white frame, featuring an incomplete family line layout (partial lineage) with the Tudor Rose heritage motif.

While the black frame grounds the artwork, the white frame blends seamlessly into bright, airy spaces. It offers an incredibly modern aesthetic that allows the subtle blush and pink tones of the Tudor Rose watermark to breathe. Even when rendering an incomplete family line with varying branch depths, the layout remains perfectly balanced and legible.

Scale and Presence

At 16x16 inches, these charts strike the perfect balance. They are large enough to serve as a stunning focal point in a living room or hallway, yet intimate enough that you can step up close and read every single name.

Holding these charts in my hands validates everything we have been building. The interactive gallery and digital previews on this website are great, but the physical product is where the magic truly happens. These are fine art pieces built to last.

Returns & Refunds Policy

Returns Policy Overview

Every product (digital files, unframed prints, or framed prints) available on this site is custom-made to order. To ensure the highest quality and fastest delivery, physical orders are fulfilled by regional print partners (LUMAPRINTS in the US, Artovo in the UK/EU). Because each piece is produced specifically for you upon ordering and data submission, our returns policy is tailored to bespoke manufacturing.

1. Damaged or Defective Items

If your physical order is damaged in transit or contains a manufacturing defect (such as a misprint or structural issue), you are entitled to a free replacement or a full refund.

  • Reporting Timeframe: Please report within 30 days of receiving your item.
  • How to Report: Email contact@markdmillican.co.uk with your order number and photographs of the damaged product and packaging.
  • Resolution: Free replacement expedited at no cost or a full refund to your original payment method.

2. Change of Mind / Buyer's Remorse

Because each design is custom-manufactured exclusively using your unique family data, we do not hold inventory. Therefore, we cannot accept returns or offer refunds for "change of mind" once an order is finalised and approved.

3. Order Cancellations & The Proofing Process

  • Data Pending (Full Refund): Cancel before submitting your GEDCOM or CSV data for a 100% full refund.
  • Proofing Stage (Partial Refund): If you cancel during the proofing stage before final print approval, a £45 processing fee is retained to cover design work, and the rest is refunded.
  • Final Approval (No Refund): Once final proof approval is submitted, printing begins immediately and orders cannot be cancelled or refunded.

4. Lost or Missing Packages

If tracking shows no updates or indicates your package has been delivered but is missing, allow 48 hours and check with neighbours or your local delivery office before contacting us for a replacement claim.
